What Our First Hours on Scene Look Like
A fire call starts the same way every time: we gather what you know — where the fire started, how far it spread, whether firefighting crews used water or foam — and dispatch a crew equipped for safety assessment and stabilization. Before cleanup begins, we walk the structure for hazards: compromised framing, exposed wiring, unstable ceilings, and broken glass from heat stress. Board-up and roof tarping come first when the structure is open to weather, because a fire scene left exposed to rain or wind turns a soot problem into a soot-and-water problem within a day.
Once the structure is secured, we assess what happened to the surfaces inside. Smoke residue is not uniform — a smoldering, low-heat fire leaves a thick, sticky residue that smears if wiped wrong, while a fast, high-heat fire leaves a dry, powdery soot that behaves differently on drywall than on metal or glass.
